Obviously, you will have a budget you will need to stick to, especially if you are paying for your own wedding. Therefore, purchase a gown within your price range. As you are well aware, gowns can cost in the hundreds or thousands of dollars. If you already know what type of gown you want, check many different bridal salons. Think about the price; don’t make hasty decision while stressed; remember that in addition to the price of the gown you will have alteration expenses and accessories to be purchased.

Fittings can either be enjoyable or frustrating. In order to ensure it is the former, keep an open dialogue at every fitting session. Plan to have your gown fitted properly at least six months before the wedding. The rule of thumb is there are approximately three fittings before the wedding. If you do not have that much time, don’t stress over it; you can still have your wedding gown in time, however, it may cost a bit more. If something doesn’t appeal to you, tell the fitter right away. Bring someone with you; either your mom or the maid of honor. Listen to their opinions; then make your decision based on how you feel. Trust your own instincts.

Now here are some really important rules to remember: always use a credit card to pay for your wedding gown. In this way, if something goes array, you can recover your losses. You may have to leave a deposit in the neighborhood of half of the cost of the wedding gown. Again, use the credit card. Ensure that you receive a contract from the bridal salon. This will alleviate any problems later. Finally, never utilize a bridal salon that asks for cash payment only. This is a red flag which should signal a scam or, at the very least, an unreliable business practice.
